The best gravy recipes needn’t be the most difficult to cook. The best gravy recipes can be found in the most unsuspecting of places. You can take any old gravy and give it your own twist to make it a real special treat for everyone to love.

This gravy can be made at home without the usage of any special ingredients at all. Just what you have every day at your home. You won’t even need the meat to accomplish this.

·         1 cup of beef broth or stock

·         2 tablespoons sifted flour

·         1 tablespoon butter

·         1 packet beef bouillon

·         Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

In a small saucepan melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook until the flour is dissolved into the butter and begins to turn a light brown. It should resemble a spoonful of peanut butter. If you choose to use cornstarch instead of flour, dissolve 1 tablespoon of cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of cool water and set aside.

Into this add the beef stock or the broth, maintaining a medium heat while stirring as you add the liquid. Stir till the mixture reaches the boiling point. You will see it thicken as you continue to stir. Add the packet of bouillon and salt and pepper to taste. That is it. You now have delicious gravy.

If you are using the corn starch option, add the stock or broth to the melted butter over medium heat. Dissolve the bouillon into the liquid. Over medium heat, add the cornstarch mixture Cook and stir until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat and salt and pepper to taste.

For a tasty treat make the gravy as described and add one can of cream of mushroom soup. This is wonderful on any beef dish and will add yet another depth of flavor to your table.

This is a easy sausage gravy you can try out for yourself.

Ingredients:

·         1-lb of sausage (hot or mild, ground)

·         3/4-cup of flour

·         2-tablespoons of butter

·         4 1/2 cups milk 

·         1-teaspoon of sage 

·         salt and pepper to taste. 

Method:

The sausage needs to be fried in a skillet pan till it reaches a stage when it has become brown. Add the flour to the sausage and combine is well together. Let it brown a bit and then add the milk. Heat on a medium high flame and stir mixture often to keep from burning. Add sage, salt, and pepper. As the gravy comes to a boil, it will thicken. If it is too thick, add 1/4 cup more of milk and reduce heat after bringing to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. This is excellent served over chicken fried steak, biscuits, or potatoes and it is very economical to do as well as in entails no fancy ingredients or anything.
